Why growers pick Med Tek

Most nutrient lines treat coco as if it were a dead medium. It isn't. Coir's exchange sites hold onto a large share of the calcium and magnesium in the feed — sometimes for weeks — so a formula written for rockwool or clay leaves coco plants short. Med Tek builds its bases for that binding: extra calcium and magnesium go into the mix, then the recipes are refined through years of lab tissue analysis and side-by-side trials.

Veg and bloom as separate bases

Single-bottle ranges often need a nitrogen add-on in veg. Med Tek does not work that way: the base is two two-part A&B formulas, one per stage. Coir Vega carries a high N-to-K ratio (NPK 6-2-4) so leaf and shoot growth stay strong through a long Australian veg. Coir Flores then moves to a bloom ratio (NPK 5-3-8) to drive flower and yield. Both mixes are highly concentrated, so you use less solution to hit a given EC than most brands — better value per litre.

Additives aimed at the coir problem

The extras on this page earn their place. Cal Mag Micro, with chelated Fe, Mn, Zn and Cu, covers deficiencies when demand peaks. Super Silica supplies high plant-available silicon so cell walls stay stronger and plants handle stress, pests and mildew better. Rhizo Plus is a kelp-based root stimulant that barely shifts the solution's nutrient profile. Connoisseur Blooms and PK Elicit tighten the flowering finish; Resin Finish is for late-stage quality.

Living root protection

Synergy Coir finishes the line with four Trichoderma species — T. harzianum, viride, koningii and reesei — picked because coir is one of the best media for them to colonise. They out-compete root pathogens and prime the plant's own defences. One 275g tub treats 2750L.

Putting a Med Tek coir feed together

  1. Match the base to the stage: Run Coir Vega A&B in veg, then switch to Coir Flores A&B once bloom starts.
  2. Get cal-mag in early: Use Cal Mag Micro while plants establish and through any high-demand stretch, especially in soft water.
  3. Keep silica in the tank: Super Silica at 0.25ml/L through grow and bloom for structural strength and resistance.
  4. Feed the roots: Rhizo Plus as the root stimulant; Synergy Coir to set a protective root-zone microflora.
  5. Finish bloom properly: PK Elicit and Connoisseur Blooms through flower, then Resin Finish for the late run.

Med Tek Nutrients FAQ's

Coco coir is not a dead medium. Negatively charged exchange sites grab calcium and magnesium from the feed, sometimes for weeks, so cations meant for the plant stay locked on the substrate. Formulas written for rockwool or clay therefore leave coco growers short on cal-mag. Med Tek's coir bases carry extra calcium and magnesium to offset that binding, so what you mix actually reaches the plant.

They are the two stage-matched bases. Coir Vega uses a high nitrogen-to-potassium ratio (NPK 6-2-4) so leaf and shoot growth stay vigorous through veg. Coir Flores then switches to a bloom ratio (NPK 5-3-8) to drive flowering and yield. Each is a two-part A&B — Vega while plants veg, Flores once they flower.

Normal demand is already covered: Coir Vega and Flores carry extra calcium and magnesium to offset coir binding. Cal Mag Micro is the extra bottle for the hard stretches — early establishment, soft water, or a visible deficiency. It adds readily available calcium, magnesium and chelated micronutrients so you can correct the gap quickly.

Concentration is part of the design. The bases reach a given EC at a lower dilution than most brands: Coir Vega reads about 1.53 mS/cm at 2ml/L, and Coir Flores about 1.33 mS/cm at 2ml/L, both in distilled water. You dose less per litre to hit target EC, so each bottle lasts longer and the value per litre stays strong.

Synergy Coir is a beneficial microbe inoculant. Four Trichoderma species go in because coir is an ideal substrate for them to colonise. They compete with root pathogens for space and nutrients, break down harmful fungi, and trigger the plant's own defence response against threats such as botrytis and powdery mildew. One 275g tub treats 2750L at two scoops per 100L.
