Start with a 550kg–1t mini if you only press personal amounts: a small plate concentrates force, so the pressure at the face is what matters, not the headline tons. Larger bags, or several bags in a session, want 2.5–5t because a bigger plate needs more total force to hit the same pressure. Tonnage above that is a production tool — it is how you press cooler and more often.
The usual flower window is 70°C to 110°C. Stay toward the cool end if you want aroma and a firm set, and accept a little less yield. Push hotter if you want more out of the bag — the oil will run thinner and the light notes fade. Open at about 90°C, press a single bag, then move the dial from what you actually get. How the material is (dry, resinous, old) matters as much as the number on the controller.
Use both. The parchment or press paper is the sheet the rosin runs onto and leaves the press on. The micron bag is the pouch that keeps plant matter out of that oil. Flower usually wants 90 micron; sift and hash usually want 45. A bag-less press looks tidy the first time — then the plates take the rest of the night to clean.
If you want to feel the ramp and pay less for the same force, take a manual hydraulic — that is why regular pressers still pick them. If you want every bag to match the last one, take electric: the plate holds a set temperature and a timer runs the cycle. Electric is the better pick when consistency matters more than feel, or when you are pressing while the rest of the room is still running.
Yes. Heat and mechanical pressure are the only inputs, so nothing is added and nothing later has to be pulled out. Compared with solvent work, that is the whole practical case: no recovery equipment, no purge step, no dedicated ventilated room, and no residual solvent left in the finished concentrate.
