Picking a rosin press by volume

Force is the headline number, but it only counts alongside plate size and how much you press at once. This page runs from a bench-top mini through to a stacked-platen press meant for a production room.

Personal use — grams at a time

The MRP550 is the manual mini: 550kg on a small heated plate, and it only asks for a bench and a power point. Want electronic temperature control? That is the ERP-Mini at 1t. Both are first-press machines — priced to learn on, and built around a personal harvest rather than a shop.

Small batches — grams through to a few dozen

On the manual-hydraulic side sit the HP230C-SX2 at 2.5t and the B5-3Tr at 5t. The electric option in that band is the RPE3: 4t through a 75x120mm plate, 0–150°C, a 0–300s timer, 800–1800W on a 220V AU plug. Pump-by-hand hydraulics give you feel; the electric units give you a result you can repeat.

Commercial — production volume

For production, the Triminator TRP Stack is a 25t press. The platens are 15x25cm food-grade aluminium, stacked vertically, and Grow Kings sells it as a combo with the hand pump. The stack doubles pressing area at the same pressure. High tonnage is what lets you press cooler, and cooler is how terpenes stay in the oil.

Temperature, pressure and time

The craft is those three settings. Everything else is bench habit.

1. Temperature. Around 70–90°C, slower, tends to give a lighter, more aromatic oil that sets up. Around 90–110°C you get more yield and a runnier consistency. Fresh, resinous material belongs on the cool side.
2. Pressure. Do not dump full force at once. Give the material 10–20 seconds to warm and start flowing, then build — slam it and the bag blows.
3. Time. Flower typically sits 45–180 seconds. Watch the parchment rather than the clock. When the flow stops, stop.
4. Plate size. Wider than the bag and you waste heat. Narrower than the bag and a strip stays unpressed. Fit the bag to the plate.

What you need alongside the press

The plates want parchment or press paper between them. The LTQ 50-sheet pack is the cheap consumable that saves the platens. Material sits in a micron bag — the 8x14cm 45 micron and 90 micron packs in plant extraction equipment are the usual sizes for flower and sift. Weigh input and output on a digital scale that reads to 0.01g, then put the result somewhere airtight — Drying & Curing.
