Why a grow tent needs heat

Once air temperature falls, plants stop doing much. They take up less water, growth pauses, and the gap between the warm lights-on hours and the cold lights-off hours keeps widening until the tent is swinging through a range nothing enjoys. What a heater actually does is put a floor under that cycle, so the overnight low stops being the thing that limits you.

Humidity rides along with heat. Warmer air can hold more moisture, so switching a heater on lifts temperature and drops relative humidity at the same time. That pairing is why a heater and a humidifier often end up running together through winter. Watch both numbers, not only the one you set.

Tube heaters

The simple path is the Cultiv8 range: 60W to 240W, 30cm to 120cm. Mount the tube on a wall or the floor, turn it on, and it warms the room. IP55 rating and built-in thermal protection are on every size, they run 220–240V, and a Cultiv8 Heat Mat Thermostat will switch them at a set point if you would rather not leave them on continuously. Length follows the wall you have; wattage follows the volume you need to heat.

Smart ducted heaters

For modulated heat, the Vivosun Aeroflux 700W and the AC Infinity Thermoforge T7 1000W use PTC elements driven by PWM, so output ramps instead of clicking on and off. Both read temperature and VPD and hold a target you choose. The Aeroflux steps across 5 heat levels; the Thermoforge steps across 10. Dual 100mm duct ports on the Thermoforge cover open- or closed-loop runs, and it plugs into AC Infinity UIS controllers. It ships without ducting — use thermal-resistant duct only.

How to choose a grow tent heater

  1. Heat the volume, not the tent name. A 60W tube is enough to take the chill off a small tent in a sheltered room. A big tent in an uninsulated garage through a cold winter wants the 700W or 1000W units.
  2. Choose the level of control. Tube plus thermostat is the cheap way to hold a temperature floor. A smart heater locks a target and responds to VPD by itself, which matters more when a small tent changes quickly.
  3. Look at the mount. Tube heaters bolt to a wall or rest on the floor and need space around them. Ducted heaters live outside the tent and push heat in, so the growing area stays clear.
  4. Budget the ducting with the unit. The Thermoforge T7 has two 100mm ports, arrives without duct, and must run on thermal-resistant duct. Order that in the same cart.
  5. Check the safety kit. Overheat shutoff, tip-over protection and flame-retardant housing are the features to look for. Every heater here has some form of thermal protection, and the Thermoforge is ETL certified.

Using a heater safely

Of everything that goes in a tent, heaters carry the most risk. Leave clearance around the unit — fabric, ducting and anything that could drop onto it — and never cover a tube heater. Turn it off for long absences, or once the weather no longer needs it. The smart heaters are indoor units for controlled rooms. The Thermoforge wants 30% to 65% relative humidity in the air reaching it, so skip it if you are deliberately running the room wet.

A heater is only as useful as the numbers it is aiming at. Pair it with a thermometer or hygrometer from the thermometers and hygrometers range, and if you are ducting a smart unit, pick ducting that matches the run.

Grow Tent Heaters FAQ's

Only when the cold end of the cycle falls below what your plants will tolerate. Lights-off tents make no heat of their own, so they slide toward room temperature overnight and through winter. Spend a few days with a thermometer, read the lights-off low rather than the daytime average, and decide from that number. Plenty of growers only run one for part of the year.

Size it from the volume you are heating and how cold the room around the tent gets — not from the tent footprint on its own. A 60W to 120W tube heater is enough for a small tent inside a heated house. A large tent in an uninsulated garage or shed through winter is a better match for the 700W or 1000W smart units, which turn output up and down instead of sitting on full.

Tube heaters cost less, need no setup, and with a thermostat they hold a basic temperature floor. Smart ducted heaters read temperature and VPD, step their own output across several levels, and sit outside the tent so they take no canopy space. Pick by how tightly you need conditions held.

Relative humidity will drop, yes. Warmer air can hold more moisture, so the same water in the air shows as a lower percentage once you heat it. That is why winter heating often leads growers to add a humidifier at the same time. Watch temperature and humidity as a pair — together they set VPD.

Yes, if you keep the clearances. Stay away from fabric, ducting and anything that could fall on the unit, never cover a tube heater, and switch it off for long stretches when nobody is around. Look for overheat shutoff, tip-over protection and flame-retardant materials — the units on this page carry those in some form.

No. Everything here heats air. Reservoir and nutrient solution heating is a job for submersible glass heaters, which live on the water chillers page. The two jobs are not interchangeable, and using an air heater to warm a tank is slow and inefficient. Measure root-zone temperature separately from air temperature.
