Hydroponic Nutrient Kits FAQ's
A hydroponic nutrient kit is a base feed — typically a two-part A and B, or a three-part grow, micro and bloom — packed with the extras that brand wants on the same chart, such as a bloom booster or a root stimulant. Bottle sizes are matched so the additives last as long as the base. A few kits also throw in propagation gear such as cloning gel.
Use a kit written for coco. Coco holds onto calcium and magnesium, so the feed has to account for that. House & Garden's Coco starter kit, Hy-Gen's coco starter packs and Green Planet's Dual Fuel are all built for coco. A generic hydroponic kit can run in coco, but you will usually need to add Cal-Mag on the side.
Not in the same feed if you can avoid it. A kit's base and additives are mixed to be chemically compatible and dosed on one schedule; swapping systems is the usual way growers get lockout and precipitate in the reservoir. If you still want a bottle from another brand, add that one product on its own and watch how the plants respond.
Size it to a single grow. A 500mL or 1L kit is enough to trial a brand through one cycle in a small tent. Step up to 4L, 5L or 20L if you grow continuously and want the per-litre cost down. Concentrates keep well when they stay sealed and out of sunlight.
In most cases, yes. Kits set the nutrient ratios; they do not set the pH of your tap or tank water, and that varies by supply. The exception is Advanced Nutrients pH Perfect, which is formulated to hold pH in range on its own. Either way, keep a pH meter so you can see where the reservoir actually sits.
