Smell Proof Bags FAQ's
Yes, within limits, and the mechanism matters. A carbon-lined bag scrubs the air moving through it, so odour is absorbed rather than blocked. A sealed barrier bag such as Foil Fresh or Zip-Zag stops odour permeating in the first place. Both do their job when the bag is closed properly and the contents are dry. An overfilled bag, a half-done zip or a saturated carbon lining will all leak.
Carbon-lined bags — the Avert carry range, AC Infinity's belt bag and handbag — hold a layer of activated carbon between the outer shell and the liner that takes up odour from the air passing through. Barrier bags are sealed film: Foil Fresh mylar and Zip-Zag dual-lock bags do not filter anything, they simply do not let odour out. Plenty of growers use both, with a barrier bag inside a carbon-lined one.
Match the bag to the job. For a personal amount, the Avert pocket bag at 14cm x 11.5cm or a 3.5g Foil Fresh bag is plenty. For a day out, the waistbag or AC Infinity's belt bag. For travel, the 5.5L travel bag or the 27L lockable backpack. A whole harvest goes in the 95L duffle, and the 148L XL is big enough for buckets.
Activated carbon has a finite capacity — it adsorbs odour until it is full, then performance falls away. In regular use that is months of good service rather than years, and the pace depends on how loaded and how damp the bag gets. Keep it dry, air it out between uses, and replace the bag once the lining no longer holds a scent in.
Yes. Zip-Zag's dual-lock bags are designed to be resealed and reused many times, which is what makes a 25-pack last. Foil Fresh bags can be ironed shut for long-term storage, then torn along that seal and used afterwards as a heavy-duty resealable zip-lock. Retire either one when the zipper stops clicking closed or the film picks up pinholes.
Not in a carbon-lined carry bag — it is built to move a finished product, not to hold a humidity level. Cure in glass or a purpose-built curing pouch first, then transfer. A sealed barrier bag like Zip-Zag will hold cured flower at the moisture level it went in at, and a two-way humidity pack from the Drying & Curing range keeps it there.
