Small Grow Tents

What counts as a small grow tent

There is no formal cut-off, but in practice a small tent is anything under about a 1.2 x 1.2m footprint. Below that the range splits into three shapes: all-in-one grow boxes around 45 x 45cm with everything built in, short propagation tents roughly 0.7–0.9m wide and under a metre tall for trays of cuttings, and compact upright tents at 0.8 x 0.8m or 1.0 x 1.0m that work like a full tent in less floor space.

Fitting one into a real space

Measure the height first — it is what catches people out. A 1.8m tent needs clearance above it for a light and hangers, so a wardrobe with a shelf usually will not work without removing the shelf. Check the door swing too: most tents open on the full front face, so you need room to stand in front of it.

Ventilation is the other constraint. A small tent still needs air exchange, but it needs far less of it — a 100mm inline fan is usually plenty, and in a very small box a clip-on fan plus passive intake can be enough. Smaller tents also run hotter per litre of air, so keep the light's wattage in proportion.
