Mylar or panda film?

The two materials do the same job differently. Mylar is a thin metallised sheet, highly reflective at around 97%, and best suited to a smooth wall it can be taped flat against — creases show up as bright and dark patches. Panda and blackout films are thicker polyethylene, around 90% reflective, and far more durable. They tolerate staples, hang over rough or uneven surfaces, and stand up to being wiped down between crops.

If your walls are flat and clean, mylar gives you more light. If you are lining a shed, a garage or a timber frame, the heavier films are the practical choice.

Diamond and patterned foil

The diamond-pattern ADF foil is textured rather than mirror-flat. It scatters light across the room instead of reflecting it straight back along the same path, which spreads intensity more evenly and reduces the risk of a hot spot burning leaves that sit close to a wall. That matters most in a narrow space where plants end up near the lining.

Sizes and fitting

Widths come in 1.2m and 3m, with roll lengths from 5m up to 30m. Measure wall height first and buy the width that covers it in one drop — a single sheet with no horizontal seam reflects better and is far quicker to fit. Panda zippers let you cut a doorway into a lined space without losing the light seal.

Grow Tent Reflective Film FAQ's

Mylar is a thin metallised sheet that reflects around 97% of light, best on smooth walls it can be taped flat against. Panda and blackout films are thicker polyethylene at around 90% reflectivity, but much more durable — they take staples, suit rough or uneven surfaces, and wipe clean between crops. Mylar for maximum light, poly film for hard-wearing practicality.

Usually not — tents come lined with reflective material already. Reflective film is for lining a room, cupboard, shed or a frame you have built yourself, where there is no lining at all. It is also useful for patching a tent whose interior has worn, scratched or torn after a few seasons of use.

The black backing stops light passing through the sheet. That keeps your light inside the growing space, which matters both for the plants' light cycle and for not lighting up a room from outside. It also blocks outside light from leaking in, which is what makes a properly lined room capable of holding a strict dark period.
