Mylar or panda film?

Same job, different sheets. Mylar is a thin metallised film, around 97% reflective, and it wants a smooth wall you can tape it flat against — a crease becomes a bright stripe next to a dark one. Panda and blackout films are thicker polyethylene, around 90% reflective, and they take more abuse. Staple them, hang them over a rough or uneven surface, and wipe them down between crops.

Flat, clean walls favour mylar — you get more light back. A shed, a garage or a timber frame is where the heavier films earn their keep.

Diamond and patterned foil

ADF foil with the diamond pattern is textured, not a flat mirror. Light spreads through the room instead of bouncing back along the same path, so intensity evens out and leaves that sit close to a wall are less likely to take a hot-spot burn. The difference shows most in a narrow space, where plants end up against the lining.

Sizes and fitting

Buy 1.2m or 3m widths, in rolls from 5m up to 30m. Measure the wall height first and take the width that covers it in one drop — one sheet with no horizontal seam reflects better and goes up faster. Panda zippers let you cut a doorway into a lined space without breaking the light seal.

Grow Tent Reflective Film FAQ's

Mylar is a thin metallised sheet at around 97% reflectance, and it works best taped flat on a smooth wall. Panda and blackout films are thicker polyethylene at around 90% reflectivity. They take staples, sit well on rough or uneven surfaces, and wipe clean between crops. Choose mylar when you want the most light back; choose poly film when the lining has to take a beating.

Usually no. A tent arrives with reflective lining already in place. Buy film when you are lining a room, cupboard, shed or a frame you have built yourself, where there is no lining at all. It is also the patch for a tent interior that has worn, scratched or torn after a few seasons.

The black backing blocks light from passing through the sheet. Your grow light stays inside the space, which matters for the plants' light cycle and so the room does not glow from outside. It also stops outside light leaking in, which is what lets a properly lined room hold a strict dark period.
