One base, four additives

Most nutrient brands sell a vegetative base and a flowering base you change at the flip. Mills does the opposite: Basis A&B stays on for the whole cycle, while Start-R, Vitalize, C4 and Ultimate PK pick up the stage jobs. You buy fewer bottles and you do not have a flip-day changeover to mistime.

Basis A&B

Sold as 1L, 5L and 20L two-part sets. One pair of bottles covers veg and flower; you change the mix ratio and which additives go in, not the base itself.

The additives

Start-R. Use this at propagation and in early growth — 500mL, 1L and 5L — while roots and young plants are getting established.

Vitalize. Bottles run 100mL, 250mL, 500mL, 1L and 5L — more sizes than anything else on this page. The 100mL is the cheap trial.

C4. The flower bottle, 500mL to 5L.

Ultimate PK. A phosphorus and potassium bottle for flower, in 500mL to 5L. Run it for a set stretch of weeks, not from first flower to chop.

Getting started

The lean kit is Basis A&B with Vitalize; the 100mL Vitalize keeps the trial cheap. Bring C4 and Ultimate PK in once flower starts. With any two-part, pour A into the water first, then B — never mix the concentrates neat. After the tank is mixed, set the reading with pH adjusters and check it on a pH meter.

Mills Nutrients FAQ's

No. That is how the range is built. Basis A&B stays on from start to finish; Start-R, Vitalize, C4 and Ultimate PK do the stage work instead of swapping the base. You carry fewer bottles and you do not have a flip-day changeover, but you also have less direct say over the base ratio than a grow-plus-bloom pair would give you.

Start-R is the propagation and early-growth bottle — on while cuttings and seedlings are putting roots down, not as a standing feed for the whole cycle. Sizes are 500mL, 1L and 5L. An early root system is what later growth sits on, which is why most full ranges keep a product for this window.

Pour part A into the water, stir it in, then pour part B. Do not combine the two concentrates in the bottle or in a jug — the elements they keep apart will react and drop out as sludge. Two-part formulas exist for that reason: they can hold a stronger, more tightly balanced mix than one bottle could keep in solution.

In flower, and only for a set stretch of weeks — not as a bottle you leave in from week one to chop. Concentrated phosphorus and potassium feeds are written for a window, not a standing dose. Running Ultimate PK and C4 together at full strength for the entire bloom is how EC climbs too far and lockout starts.

Start with the 100mL Vitalize — that is the smallest bottle Mills sells here, and the cheapest way to see if the line suits the room. Add a 1L Basis A&B set and you have a working feed for a small tent without buying a range you have not run yet.
