One base, four additives

Mills takes a different approach to most brands: rather than a vegetative base and a flowering base you swap between, Basis A&B runs the whole cycle and the additives do the stage-specific work. Fewer decisions, fewer bottles, and one less thing to get wrong at the stage change.

Basis A&B

The two-part base, in 1L, 5L and 20L sets. It carries the plant through both stages, with the ratio and the additives changing rather than the base itself.

The additives

Start-R. The propagation and early-growth product, in 500mL, 1L and 5L — used when roots and young plants are establishing.

Vitalize. In 100mL, 250mL, 500mL, 1L and 5L. The widest size ladder in the range, and the 100mL is a genuinely cheap way to trial the brand.

C4. The flowering additive, 500mL to 5L.

Ultimate PK. Phosphorus and potassium for the flowering window, 500mL to 5L. Used for a defined period rather than continuously.

Getting started

Basis A&B plus Vitalize is the minimum sensible setup, and the 100mL Vitalize makes that an inexpensive experiment. Add C4 and Ultimate PK once you reach flower. As with any two-part base, add A and B to the water separately and never mix them undiluted. Set the number afterwards with pH up and down and confirm it with a pH meter.

Mills Nutrients FAQ's

No, and that is the defining feature of the range. Basis A&B runs the entire cycle, with the additives handling stage-specific work rather than the base changing. It means fewer bottles and no switchover to time, though it gives you less direct control over the base ratio than a two-base system would.

It supports propagation and early growth, used when cuttings and young plants are establishing roots rather than throughout the cycle. It comes in 500mL, 1L and 5L. Getting the root system right early is what makes everything later possible, which is why most serious ranges include a product for this stage.

Add part A to your water, stir it through, then add part B — never mix the two concentrates directly, because the elements they keep separated will react and precipitate out. That separation is the whole point of a two-part formulation: it allows a more concentrated and more precisely balanced feed than a single bottle could hold.

During the flowering window, and for a defined period rather than continuously. Concentrated phosphorus and potassium supplements are designed to be run for a stretch of weeks, not from start to finish. Overlapping it with C4 at full dose for the whole of flower is the usual way to push EC too high and cause lockout.

Vitalize comes in 100mL, which is the smallest bottle in the range and an inexpensive way to see whether the brand suits your garden before committing. Pair it with a 1L set of Basis A&B and you have a working schedule for a small tent without spending much on a range you have not tested.
