Grow light hangers are what hold the heavy kit in a tent. Rope ratchets raise or lower a light, ballast, reflector or carbon filter in small steps with one hand — no knots to undo, no extra person on the other end.

That matters because plants grow. A light that sat right in week two will sit too close by week six, and lifting it a few centimetres at a time is how you stop the canopy burning.

Rope ratchets versus fixed mounting

Rope ratchets are the usual choice. You hang a pair from the tent's top bars, clip the light underneath, and a squeeze-and-pull action moves it in small steps that stay put under load. Anything that has to travel as the plants grow is a fit — lights first, then carbon filters, which typically sit at the top of the tent.

Mounting bars are fixed hardware on a tent frame or a wall. The fixture goes where you set it and stays there, which is the point for side lighting and extra bars you will not be moving once they are in.

Check the weight rating

The number that decides the buy is the load rating. A light by itself is rarely the problem; a light plus a 200mm carbon filter is, and filters are what people undersize for. Twin packs here are rated to 68kg a pair.

You also cannot raise the light without moving the filter, which is the opposite of why you bought ratchets.
