Environment FAQ's
Aim for the mid-20s (°C) with more humidity while plants are seedlings or in veg, then drop toward the low-to-mid 20s and drier air as you go through flower. Holding a steady line matters more than hitting a textbook number. Large day-night swings and humidity spikes cause more damage than sitting a degree off target. A thermometer-hygrometer with min/max memory is how you see what the room actually does.
Start with extraction: an inline fan, a carbon filter sized to it, and ducting. That one stack dumps heat and humidity, brings in fresh CO2-rich air, and handles odour. Circulation fans come next — they cost little and do a lot of the work. Humidifiers, heaters, chillers and CO2 wait until your readings say you need them.
Vapour pressure deficit is temperature and humidity folded into one number that describes how hard plants are being asked to transpire. If you are new to this, work in temperature and humidity ranges and ignore VPD for now. Once the room holds a line and you are chasing the last few percent, VPD charts — and controllers that track them — are the next step.
The usual cause is an extraction fan that only works in bursts — flat out, then off. A speed-controlled EC fan left running at a lower speed flattens that swing, and a climate controller that eases fan speed against a humidity target flattens it more. Add or upsize a humidifier or dehumidifier only after that.
