Call these net pots or mesh pots: rigid baskets with an open lattice. Medium stays in the cup; roots exit through the walls and the base and carry on in the nutrient solution underneath. That is why they go on deep water culture lids, in NFT channels and in flood and drain trays, not into soil.
The hole in the lid sets the size, not the pot volume. A 140mm net pot is built for a 140mm hole. The Current Culture Multi-Mod 140mm uses a ribbed collar that locks into CCH2O lids, and an inverted planting deck that keeps transplant depth consistent.
