Why a grow tent needs an inline fan

The inline duct fan is what actually ventilates the grow room. Exhaust pulls stale, humid air out of the tent; intakes pull fresh, CO2-rich air back in; temperature and humidity stay in the band the plants want. Keep exhaust a notch stronger than intake and you get gentle negative pressure — walls tuck in, and outgoing air has to leave through the carbon filter instead of leaking odour into the room.

The inline duct fans we stock

Quiet EC mixed-flow fans. Most tents land on these. An EC motor draws little current and stays quiet once you drop the speed, and a controller is already in the box on most of the models we carry — AC Infinity Cloudline PRO (S-series with a speed controller, T-series with the Controller 69 Pro climate controller), Headwind HVC EC and the waterproof Dura line, Sigilventus, and Vivosun Aerozesh with the E42A Wi-Fi temperature and humidity controller.

Centrifugal fans. These are Can-Fan's RS metal-body and RK plastic-body ranges. Resistance is where they earn their keep: a carbon filter and a long duct run barely knock the airflow back, which is the opposite of a light mixed-flow on a long run.

Silenced fans. These sit in an acoustic housing — Pro Grow Dragon Silenced, G.A.S Revolution V2 EC Vector, Headwind Silenced and the Can-Fan Iso-Max. They are the ones to look at when the grow room shares a wall with a bedroom. See the full silenced fans range.

Axial and intake fans. Allvent, Cultiv8 and Colossal axial fans are cheap movers of air when nothing is blocking the path. Use one on intake so the main fan can stay on exhaust.

How to choose the right inline fan

  1. Match your duct size. The flanges we stock are 100mm, 125mm, 150mm, 200mm, 250mm, 300mm and 315mm. A small tent usually sits on 100–150mm ducting, a mid-size tent on 150–200mm, and a full room on 250mm and up.
  2. Check the airflow figure. Each listing quotes m³/h. A working rule is to swap the tent's air about every one to three minutes, then leave spare speed on the dial.
  3. Allow for the filter. Carbon filters and ducting add resistance. Go up a size, or pick a centrifugal or a strong EC fan, rather than pinning a small fan wide open.
  4. Think about noise. Half speed on an EC fan is far quieter than an AC fan sitting on a choke. If noise is the worry, take a silenced model and add noise-reducing ducting.
  5. Pick your control. A plug-in speed controller holds one set speed; the AC Infinity Controller 69 Pro and Vivosun E42A raise or drop the fan from temperature and humidity.

Fit a carbon filter and ducting to complete the run — or skip the matching and take a fan + filter combo.

Inline Fans FAQ's

Flange first: match the fan to the duct and the filter. Small tents sit on 100–150mm, mid-size tents on 150–200mm, and full rooms on 250mm and up. Then read the m³/h on the listing and size for a full air change every one to three minutes, with spare capacity so the fan never has to sit wide open.

A mixed-flow fan — AC Infinity Cloudline, Headwind HVC, Sigilventus — is compact, efficient and quiet, which is why it is the usual tent choice. A centrifugal — Can-Fan RS and RK — is louder, but it holds airflow far better against resistance, so it is the one for a long duct run, tight bends or a heavily loaded carbon filter.

Buy more capacity than you need and drop the speed. Half speed on an EC fan is far quieter than a small unit pinned wide open. An acoustic-housing silenced fan takes more of the noise, insulated noise-reducing ducting stops the whoosh carrying down the run, and rubber hanging straps keep vibration out of the tent frame.

Suck it out. Hang the fan high and pull through the carbon filter; let fresh air enter at low intake vents. Slight negative pressure is the point — odour can only leave through the filter. Fit a smaller intake fan only if the walls bow in hard or the temperature climbs.

Yes. Every fan here takes a filter of the same diameter. The filter adds resistance, so either step the fan up one size or choose a centrifugal or a strong EC model. Keep both on the same duct size; reducing the diameter chokes airflow and adds noise.
