Grower Tip

  • For best results, add Rootzone at 1mL/L to your Orchid Focus mix to keep roots healthy.
  • Mixed more than you need? The solution keeps for one to two weeks. Give it a good stir before you feed.

Features

One bottle for every stage

Formulated to meet the needs of most orchids through both growth and flowering, so there's no switching between nutrients.

All 12 essential minerals

A complete, balanced nutrient with all 12 essential minerals in one easily absorbed liquid concentrate, made with Single Part Technology.

100% nitrate nitrogen, no urea

All of the nitrogen is supplied as nitrate. Urea, which has been shown to be toxic to certain orchids, is left out entirely.

Suits bark and perlite

Nitrate nitrogen is available straight away in inert media such as bark or perlite, which lack the soil bacteria that urea depends on.

pH buffered

Buffered so there's no pH adjusting needed with most tap water.

Chelated trace elements

Made using only high grade raw materials and chelated trace elements, for effortless absorption.

Nothing unwanted

Guaranteed free of chlorides, urea and sodium, and completely odourless.

More than orchids

Also suitable for bromeliads and indoor plants.

  1. 1
    Use it at every stage

Feed Orchid Focus General through both the growth phase and flowering. There's no need to switch nutrients.

  2. 2
    Mix 5mL per litre

Add 5mL to each litre of water. Most orchids flourish at this rate.

  3. 3
    Feed at every watering

Use it at every watering through active growth, particularly spring and summer. Some orchids have dormant periods when no feeding is needed.

  4. 4
    Add a monthly boost

Once a month, give your orchid a dose of 8mL per litre for extra vibrancy and vigour.

  5. 5
    Never exceed 10mL per litre

That's the rate for heavy feeders such as actively growing Cymbidiums. Overfeeding can burn roots and leaves and inhibit flowering.

  6. 6
    Flush once a month

Water through with clean, plain water once a month to clear any build-up of mineral salts.

  7. 7
    Foliar feed at half strength

Mix 2.5–5mL per litre and mist the foliage, including the undersides of the leaves, early in the morning. Avoid the blooms.

What's the difference between Orchid Focus General, Grow and Bloom?

Orchid Focus General is one nutrient for both stages, balanced to meet the needs of most orchids through growth and flowering. Grow and Bloom split the job: Grow is balanced for the growth phase, and Bloom, with extra potassium (2.4% against 2.0%), for orchids in spike. Choose General for simplicity, or the Grow and Bloom pair if you want to tune the feed to each stage. All three are urea-free, with all 12 essential minerals.

How long will the 250mL last?

At 5mL per litre, this 250mL bottle makes 50L of feed. As a guide, mixing 2L a week for a small collection uses 10mL, so the bottle lasts about 25 weeks. The monthly 8mL per litre dose uses a little more. Orchid Focus General also comes in 1L and 5L, the same formula in a bigger bottle, for larger collections.

Why does it matter that Orchid Focus is urea-free?

Orchids are usually grown in inert media such as bark or perlite. These lack the soil bacteria and micro-organisms needed to convert urea into a form the plant can use, and unconverted urea can become toxic quickly. Orchid Focus supplies 100% of its nitrogen as nitrate, the ideal form for orchids, so it's available to the plant straight away and supports strong, healthy growth over long periods.

Can I use it on plants other than orchids?

Yes. Orchid Focus is also suitable for bromeliads and indoor plants, so one bottle can look after a mixed indoor collection at the same 5mL per litre. If most of your plants are foliage plants and you only have an orchid or two, Foliage Focus is the Focus nutrient balanced for them.

Can I use it as a foliar spray?

Yes. Foliar feeding isn't as efficient as feeding through the roots, but it can have a very noticeable, positive effect on orchids. Mix at half strength, 2.5–5mL per litre, and apply with a spray bottle that gives a fine mist. Mist the foliage, including the undersides of the leaves, but avoid the blooms, and spray early in the morning to avoid heat damage from the sun.

My orchid mix has slow release fertiliser in it. Can I still use Orchid Focus?

Yes, but halve the dilution rate so you don't overfeed. Slow release fertilisers release their nutrients unevenly, because which minerals come out, and how much, depends on temperature and watering habits. A liquid nutrient needs applying more often, but every feed delivers the full, balanced mineral profile, which is why regular weak feeds give orchids more consistent growth.

Description

Growth Technology Orchid Focus General is the one-bottle orchid nutrient from the GT Focus range: a complete liquid orchid fertiliser specifically formulated to meet the exacting needs of most orchids, through both growth and flowering. It supplies all 12 essential minerals in one concentrate, with 100% of its nitrogen in the nitrate form and no urea, which has been shown to be toxic to certain orchids. It's also suitable for bromeliads and indoor plants. This 250mL makes up to 50L of feed at 5mL per litre.

One bottle or two?

Orchid Focus General feeds an orchid through both its growth phase and flowering, so it's the simple choice if you'd rather not switch bottles. If you want to tune the feed to each stage, use Orchid Focus Grow during the growth phase and Orchid Focus Bloom, with its extra potassium, when the orchid is in spike.

Why orchids need their own nutrient

It's a myth that orchids don't need feeding. Orchids, particularly the epiphytes, evolved where mineral nutrients are in limited supply, so they need smaller amounts than other plants. But like all green plants, they rely on essential minerals to produce shoots, leaves and blooms, and they perform best on a nutritional program designed specifically for them.

  • All 12 essential minerals: calcium, nitrogen, phosphorus, potassium, magnesium, sulfur, iron, manganese, zinc, copper, boron and molybdenum, blended into one easily absorbed liquid concentrate with Growth Technology's Single Part Technology (SPT) and balanced to suit most orchids.
  • 100% nitrate nitrogen and no urea. Orchids are commonly grown in inert media such as bark or perlite, which lack the soil bacteria and micro-organisms needed to convert urea into a form the plant can use, so urea can quickly become toxic. Nitrate is the ideal form of nitrogen for orchids, giving strong, healthy growth over long periods.
  • Made using only high grade raw materials and chelated trace elements, for effortless absorption by the plant.
  • Guaranteed free of chlorides, urea and sodium.
  • pH buffered, with no pH adjusting needed in most tap water, and completely odourless.
  • A complete feed every time. Slow release fertilisers depend on temperature and watering habits for which minerals they release and when. With a liquid nutrient, the full, balanced mineral profile is available to the plant at every application.

How to use

  • Mix 5mL per litre of water and use at every watering for optimum results. Most orchids flourish at this rate.
  • Follow the orchid growers' rule of "weekly, weakly": smaller doses on a regular basis give more consistent growth and healthier plants than stronger solutions fed infrequently.
  • Once a month, give a dose of 8mL per litre for extra vibrancy and vigour.
  • Never exceed 10mL per litre, the rate for heavy feeders such as actively growing Cymbidiums. Overfeeding can lead to root and leaf burn and inhibit flowering.
  • Feed regularly during active growth, particularly spring and summer. Some orchids have dormant periods when no feeding is needed.
  • Flush pots once a month with clean, plain water to clear any build-up of mineral salts.
  • Foliar feeding: mix at half strength (2.5–5mL per litre) and apply as a fine mist to the foliage, including the undersides of the leaves. Avoid the blooms, and spray early in the morning to avoid heat damage from the sun.

Store in a cool, dark place.
