Why a grow kit beats buying the parts separately

Buying a kit is one decision, not ten. The pieces inside have already been picked to work together, so you skip the job of matching a fan to a filter, or a feed chart to a growing medium, before anything is planted. On a first grow that is the gap between a setup that finishes in an afternoon and a week spent waiting on the one part you did not know you needed.

The components match

Each complete tent kit we sell pairs a grow tent with a grow light, an inline fan and a carbon filter that are sized to each other. What else is in the box is not the same on every kit — some add ducting, a timer, a hygrometer and ratchet hangers — so read the product page for the exact list before you buy.

A full feed schedule in one order

Starter packs from Green Planet, House & Garden, Advanced Nutrients, Cyco, Growth Technology, ISN, Bio Diesel, Professor's Nutrients and Hy-Gen put a base nutrient in the same order as the additives meant to run with it. Bottle sizes are aimed at a first run, not a commercial room.

Built around the medium you are growing in

Coco, soil and recirculating systems do not take the same feed. The kits on this page are sold by medium, so you do not have to translate a chart yourself — House & Garden, for instance, ships separate Coco, Soil and Aqua starter kits, and the bottles that arrive already match how you grow.

Our range of starter kits

This collection holds three kinds of kit. Complete grow tent kits cover the room in a single order — the Ultimate Grow Tent Starter Kit, the Ultimate Hi-Top and Ultimate Beginner Indoor kits, AC Infinity's Advanced Ionframe EVO4 3x3 kit, the Stealth Sufficient kit, and the Vivosun VGrow all-in-one smart grow box (45 x 45 x 122cm) when the space is cupboard-sized.

Nutrient starter packs run from two-bottle sets under one brand up to twelve-bottle programs. Green Planet's GP3 and Dual Fuel kits are stocked in 1L, 5L and 20L; Advanced Nutrients pH Perfect three-part kits in 500mL, 1L and 4L; Cyco, Growth Technology, ISN, Bio Diesel, Professor's Nutrients and Hy-Gen each ship their own starter set.

Propagation kits start seeds and cuttings: the Garland 24-cell self-watering seed kit, the Heat N Grow three-part propagation set, the Growy propagation starters kit, AC Infinity's Humidity Dome XL with a 6x12 cell tray, and a mini microgreens LED growing kit for a benchtop.

How to choose the right starter kit

  1. Start with your space. Measure the footprint and the height you can spare for a tent, including clearance above for the light to hang and the fan to sit. Height is what trips people up, not floor area.
  2. Match the nutrient kit to your medium. Coco, soil and recirculating hydro each take a different feed. Take the kit sold for the medium you are using, rather than converting a chart yourself.
  3. Check the component list. Tent kits are not identical. Some ship tent, light, fan and filter only; others add ducting, hangers, a timer and a hygrometer. The product page is the list of what actually ships.
  4. Decide where seedlings will start. If you are germinating or taking cuttings, a propagation kit sits beside the main tent rather than inside it, and needs its own small light and heat.
  5. Budget for the consumables. Tent kits generally leave out pots, growing medium and nutrients. Add those in the same order so a missing bag does not push the start date.

Still deciding?

If the tent is the open question, Everything You Need To Know About Grow Tents walks through sizes, materials and what to look for. For feeding, The 5 Best Hydroponic Nutrients Australia compares the brands listed above, and the Grow Light Electricity Cost Calculator gives a running cost before you commit. Starter Kits & Bundles FAQ's

Every complete tent kit starts with a grow tent, a grow light, an inline fan and a carbon filter sized to each other. Past that the packs diverge — several of ours also ship ducting, ratchet hangers, a timer and a hygrometer. Read the component list on the product page before you order; two kits of a similar size do not always carry the same extras.

Choose the growing medium first, then the brand. Coco, soil and recirculating hydro each take a different feed, and most brands sell a separate kit for each — House & Garden, for example, has Coco, Soil and Aqua starter kits. After the medium is settled, pick a bottle size that matches how many plants you run, so leftover nutrients are not sitting for years.

Only when you start from seed or take cuttings. A propagation kit gives seedlings a humid, warm, gently lit space to root — a different climate to a flowering tent. Buying established plants? You can leave it off. Planning back-to-back cycles? It usually earns its keep in strike rate.

Pots, growing medium and nutrients are usually left out — those are sized to how you grow, not to the tent. Most growers add fabric pots, coco or soil, a nutrient starter pack and a pH pen in the same order. If the kit does not already ship a timer and a thermo-hygrometer, those are worth adding too.

Yes — they are the simplest way to start. Matching a fan to a filter, a light to a tent size and a feed to a medium is the hard part of a first setup, and a kit has already done that matching. You still pick the tent size and the medium; you do not find a missing or mismatched part halfway through the build.

Work backwards from how many plants you want to run. As a rough guide, growers allow about one square metre for two to four plants in medium-sized pots, plus enough height for the plant, the pot and the light hanging above. Measure ceiling height first — tents commonly stand 1.6m to 2m, and you still need clearance above.
