Why Sigilventus

This is the range you buy when noise is the constraint and the room is big. The silenced fans ship with a speed controller included, and the filters are 600mm deep rather than the 300mm that is common at the budget end.

Silenced fans as standard, not as an upgrade

The EC Silenced Fan With Speed Controller range covers 150mm, 200mm and 250mm, each supplied with its controller. Acoustic housing plus EC speed control is what makes a fan liveable when it shares a wall with a bedroom.

Deeper carbon beds

Filters here are 600mm long in 150mm, 200mm and 250mm collars. A deeper carbon bed gives air more contact time with the carbon, which is what determines how much odour is actually removed and how long the filter lasts before it saturates.

Matching a fan to a filter

  1. Keep the diameters the same. A 200mm fan wants a 200mm filter. Reducing between them adds restriction and wastes the fan.
  2. Size the fan for the filter, not just the tent. A carbon filter is a significant restriction. A fan chosen exactly to tent volume will underperform once the filter is fitted.
  3. Pull through the filter, do not push. Mounting the filter on the intake side of the fan is the standard arrangement and keeps the fan itself clean.
  4. Run bigger and slower for quiet. A 250mm EC fan at half speed moves the same air far more quietly than a 200mm at full. That is the whole argument for EC over AC.
  5. Replace carbon on time. Carbon saturates. A 600mm bed lasts longer than a 300mm one, but neither lasts forever, and a saturated filter is just an expensive restriction.

Sigilventus FAQ's

The motor and impeller sit inside an acoustic housing that absorbs sound before it leaves the unit. At the same airflow a silenced fan is noticeably quieter than a bare inline fan — enough to matter if the fan shares a wall with living space. The Sigilventus silenced models come with their speed controller included, so low-speed running is built into the purchase.

A longer filter holds a deeper bed of carbon, so air spends more time in contact with it. More contact time means more odour removed per pass, and more carbon means longer before the filter saturates and needs replacing. The trade-off is size, weight and the load it puts on your hanging points.

Only if you want the fan to respond to conditions. The 8 speed simple controller sets a fixed speed and leaves it there, which is fine for a stable room. The Smart EC Fan Controller Pro takes a probe and drives fan speed from temperature, so the fan works harder at lights-on and backs off overnight without you touching it.

Standard practice is to pull air through the filter: filter first, then ducting, then fan, then exhaust. That way the fan only handles already-filtered air and stays clean, and the whole tent runs at slight negative pressure so odour leaves through the filter rather than through the zips.

You can, but you should not. Reducing from a 250mm fan to a 200mm filter throttles the fan at its most restrictive point and undersizes the carbon bed for the volume being moved. That means less odour control and a filter that saturates faster. Match the collar sizes — the range is built in matching 150mm, 200mm and 250mm.
