A mixed flow impeller pushes air both along the axis and outward, which lets it hold pressure better than a plain axial fan while staying far more compact than a centrifugal blower. That matters in a grow room because a carbon filter creates real resistance — an axial fan that looks powerful on paper collapses once a filter is attached.
EC motors are speed-controlled electronically across their whole range, so they run quieter at part load and use less power than an AC fan choked down with a dimmer. They also hold their torque better at low speed, which is why an EC fan at 40% still moves air properly instead of just humming.
Calculate the tent volume in cubic metres and start from exchanging it about once a minute, then add margin for the carbon filter, ducting bends and any silencer. As a rough guide a 1.2x1.2m tent commonly runs a 150mm fan and a 2.4x1.2m runs 200mm — but the filter and duct run matter as much as the footprint.
Only if noise is a constraint. The EC Mixed Flow Silenced fans, available 150mm to 315mm, wrap the motor in acoustic housing and are noticeably quieter than the standard version at the same airflow. If the fan sits in a garage or shed away from living space, the standard EC range does the same job for less.
Damp installations — greenhouses, outdoor duct runs, and anywhere condensation forms inside the ducting. They run from 100mm to 250mm. A standard inline fan in a wet environment will eventually fail at the motor, so if the install sees moisture, this is the version to use.
Yes. A 150mm fan pairs with a 150mm filter. Using a smaller filter with a reducer chokes airflow and shortens the filter's working life because the carbon bed is undersized for the volume. Filters here run 100x300mm, 125x300mm, 150x300mm and 200x750mm.
