Grower Tip
- Fit the damper on the exhaust side of your extraction run so cold drafts and debris can't flow back into the tent when the fan idles.
- Its light spring opens with gentle airflow, so it still works when you run the inline fan on a low speed.
Features
Spring-loaded blades let air pass in one direction and close to block backdrafts and debris from re-entering the duct.
Two rings of outer rubber gaskets grip the duct wall and form an airtight seal, whether fully or partially inserted.
Mounts either horizontally or vertically, so it suits a wide range of duct runs and orientations.
A galvanised steel body with a black powder-coat finish and light aluminium damper blades stands up to heavy-duty use.
Sized for 8 inch (200mm) duct openings, with a 18cm (7.08in) insert length.
Works with range hoods, bathroom fans, tumble dryers and grow-tent inline fans wherever one-way airflow is needed.
-
1
Pick the airflow direction
The blades open one way and close against reverse flow, so orient the damper so they open toward your intended airflow (usually the outlet on an exhaust run).
-
2
Choose the orientation
The damper works horizontally or vertically; position it to suit your duct run.
-
3
Insert into the duct
Push it into the 200mm duct, fully or partially, so the two rubber gasket rings grip the duct wall.
-
4
Check the seal
Make sure both rubber rings are seated for an airtight fit with no gaps around the body.
-
5
Secure the run (optional)
For a permanent install, join the ducting over each end and lock it down with a duct clamp or foil tape.
Which size do I need?
Match the damper to your duct diameter. This one fits 8 inch (200mm) ducting; it's also available in 100mm (4 inch) and 150mm (6 inch). Measure your duct's internal diameter and choose the matching size so the rubber gaskets seal properly.
Which way does it install?
Fit it so the spring-loaded blades open in your intended airflow direction, usually toward the outlet on an exhaust run. Air pushes the blades open, and they close to stop backdrafts and debris flowing the other way. It works mounted horizontally or vertically.
What is it made of?
The body is galvanised steel with a black powder-coat finish, and the butterfly damper blades are lightweight aluminium on a light spring. Two rings of rubber gasket around the outside grip the duct and form the airtight seal.
Can I use it outside a grow tent?
Yes. As well as keeping debris out of grow-tent inline fans, it's built for general HVAC use — range hoods, bathroom exhaust fans, tumble dryers, and keeping pilot lights lit in water heaters — wherever you need one-way airflow.
How is it held in place?
The two outer rubber gasket rings grip the inside of the duct, so it holds itself once inserted, fully or partially, without extra fixings. For a permanent run you can still clamp or tape the ducting over each end.
Description
A ventilation ducting tool designed for insertion into 6” ducting to prevent cold drafts and debris from flowing into ventilation systems.
Built to be embedded in ducts, the backdraft damper is made of sturdy galvanised steel and features two rings of outer rubber gaskets. This enables it to grip your ducting with an airtight seal in either a horizontal or vertical orientation.
The butterfly damper blades are made of aluminium and are equipped with a light spring that folds with minimal airflow.
APPLICATIONS
The spring-loaded antidraft damper is built for heavy-duty performance in applications like overhead range hoods in kitchens, bathroom fans and tumble dryers. It can be fully or partially inserted into your duct work using the rubber rings to hold itself in place. Other one-way airflow uses include keep pilot lights burning in water heaters and keeping debris from entering inline duct fans in grow tents.
