Rockwool or polyester?

Both Sea-Hawk lines wrap an insulating layer around the airflow to soak up fan hum and the rush of moving air, and both come as 5m boxed lengths you cut to size. The differences are practical. The rockwool line uses thick natural-fibre insulation that also damps heat from the air stream, wound on a tempered steel wire coil — wear gloves when cutting it. The polyester line uses Dacron insulation that's itch-free to handle, with a perforated inner core that lets sound pass into the insulation and an airtight outer layer that keeps airflow efficient.

Get the size right

Match the duct diameter to your fan and filter spigots — a step-down adaptor costs you airflow and adds noise, which defeats the point:

1. Rockwool: 125mm, 150mm, 200mm, 250mm, 300mm and 315mm.
2. Polyester: 100mm, 125mm, 150mm, 200mm and 355mm.
3. Overlap sizes (125mm-200mm): pick rockwool where heat matters, polyester for easier handling — the acoustic result is close.

Fitting it

Measure the full run including bends before cutting. Cut with a sharp knife through both inner and outer layers, then seal each end to the fan, filter or wall mount with duct tape — inner layer and outer layer both — so no air bypasses the insulation. For rockwool, wear old clothes and gloves while you work; the polyester line skips that problem entirely.
