Why Rhino Pro

A carbon filter has two dimensions that matter and most ranges only give you one. Rhino Pro gives you both: the collar diameter that matches your fan, and the bed length that decides how long the filter lasts.

Diameter matches the fan

Collars run 100mm, 125mm, 150mm, 200mm, 250mm, 300mm and 350mm. Matching the filter to the fan means no reducers, no added restriction and no throttling a fan you paid for.

Length decides working life

At most diameters there is a choice of length — 150mm comes in 300mm, 500mm and 1000mm; 200mm, 250mm and 300mm all come in 500mm and 1000mm; 350mm comes in 1000mm and 1200mm. A longer body holds more carbon, which means more contact time per pass and longer before it saturates.

The full size ladder

Very few brands cover 100mm through 350mm. If you are running anything unusual — a small clone cabinet or a 350mm commercial fan — this is the range that has a matching filter.

Choosing the right filter

  1. Match the collar to the fan, always. Reducing between fan and filter adds restriction exactly where you can least afford it.
  2. Go longer if the fan runs constantly. A 1000mm body holds far more carbon than a 300mm one and lasts proportionally longer before it saturates.
  3. Pull, do not push. Mount the filter on the intake side of the fan so the fan handles filtered air and stays clean.
  4. Check the hanging points. A 300x1000mm or 350x1200mm filter is heavy. Confirm the tent bar or ceiling fixing is rated for it before hanging.
  5. Keep humidity off it. Carbon absorbs water as well as odour. A filter running in constantly damp air saturates faster and works less well.

Rhino FAQ's

Match the collar diameter to your inline fan — a 200mm fan takes a 200mm filter. Then choose the length: longer bodies hold more carbon and last longer before saturating. Collars run from 100mm to 350mm and lengths from 300mm to 1200mm, so there is a matching filter for essentially any fan you are likely to be running.

It gives air more contact time with the carbon on each pass and holds more carbon overall, so it removes odour more thoroughly and lasts longer before needing replacement. The trade-offs are cost, physical space inside the tent and weight on your hanging points. A 350x1200mm filter is a substantial object.

It depends on run hours, how much odour it is handling and especially humidity — carbon absorbs water as well as odour, so a filter in constantly damp air saturates faster. There is no fixed interval. The practical sign is odour getting through while airflow is unchanged, which means the carbon is spent rather than the fan failing.

Before — mount the filter on the intake side so the fan pulls air through it. That keeps the fan itself clean, and it puts the whole tent under slight negative pressure so air leaves through the filter rather than escaping through zips and cable ports. Pushing air through a filter is less effective and dirties the fan.

You can physically, with a reducer, but it undermines both. The reducer throttles the fan at its most restrictive point, and the smaller carbon bed is undersized for the volume of air being moved, so it saturates faster. Rhino covers 100mm to 350mm precisely so you do not have to do this.
