Growy FAQ's
No — the thermostat is built into this mat, which is the main reason to choose it. Most propagation heat mats are unregulated and need a separate controller bought alongside, otherwise they run at full output whatever the room is doing. The Growy mat is 25x52cm, which suits a standard propagation tray.
It is a soil and coco amendment rather than a growing medium on its own. Blending coarse perlite into a mix creates air pockets that stop it compacting and help it drain, which is what roots need as much as water. Coarse grades resist floating and compaction better than fine grades. This is sold in a 10L bag.
Very little — a tray, a growing mat and seed. The coco coir grow mat sits in the microgreen mat tray, you sow densely across the surface, keep it damp and harvest at seedling stage. No nutrient is usually needed because the crop is cut before it exhausts what the seed carries. It is a fast use for an idle bench.
A few degrees above room temperature is the general target — most seeds and cuttings root well with the medium somewhere in the low-to-mid twenties Celsius. Exact figures vary by species, so check what you are propagating. The important part is that it is regulated rather than running at full output all day.
