Why Garland trays

Trays are the part of a grow room nobody thinks about until one cracks and empties a reservoir across the floor. Garland trays are rigid, deep-walled and built to hold water rather than just catch a drip.

Real depth on the square trays

The square grow trays are 12cm deep across 60cm, 80cm and 100cm, which is genuine containment rather than a lip. That depth is what lets a tray double as a flood tray or a spill bund under a full set of pots.

Shallow trays for growbags and benches

The Giant Plus at 120x55x5cm and the Value Growbag tray at 100x40x5cm are the shallow, wide format that suits growbags, capillary matting and bench runs where 12cm of depth is in the way.

Standard-size propagation

The 37.5x23cm seed trays, matching solid base trays and dome lids are the standard footprint the whole industry builds around, so they fit standard heat mats and standard shelving.

How to choose a tray

  1. Decide whether it needs to hold water or just catch it. A 12cm square tray is a containment vessel. A 5cm shallow tray is a drip tray with room for capillary matting.
  2. Measure the tent floor, not the pots. An 80x80cm tray does not fit a 1.2x1.2m tent neatly, and a 100x100cm one does not fit at all. Check the internal dimension of the tent.
  3. Match propagation trays to standard kit. The 37.5x23cm footprint is what heat mats, dome lids and shelf racks are built around. Straying from it makes everything else harder to source.
  4. Buy the dome if you are rooting cuttings. Cuttings have no roots to replace transpired water, so they need the humidity a dome holds. Seeds germinating in warm conditions often do not.
  5. Consider self-watering for seedlings. The 24-cell Seed Success kit waters from below, which avoids dislodging seed and keeps moisture even across the tray.

Garland FAQ's

Neither the 100x100cm nor the 120x120cm square tray fits a 1.2x1.2m tent cleanly once you allow for the frame and the zip. Most growers running that size use the 100x100x12cm tray with a gap, or two shallow Giant Plus trays side by side. Measure the internal floor dimension of your specific tent — they vary between brands.

The square grow trays are 12cm deep and hold a real volume of water, so they work as flood trays or as containment under a full set of pots. The Giant Plus and Value Growbag trays are 5cm deep and wide, designed to sit under growbags or on a bench with capillary matting where a deep wall would get in the way.

For cuttings, yes. A cutting has no roots to replace the water it loses through its leaves, so it needs high humidity until it does. A dome holds that. For seeds germinating in a warm spot a dome helps but is not essential. Vent it gradually once roots appear or you will get soft growth and mould.

37.5x23x6cm for both the netted and the solid base trays, with a matching 37.5x23x12cm dome propagator lid. That is the industry-standard propagation footprint, which means it fits standard heat mats, standard shelf racks and standard dome lids from other manufacturers.

The netted version has an open mesh base rather than a solid one, so it drains freely and is used as an insert sitting inside a solid base tray. That lets you lift the whole batch out to water from below, or drain it completely, without handling individual plugs.
