Four levers of a grow room environment

Every product in this collection moves one of four levers: temperature, humidity, airflow or CO2. Plants transpire and breathe against all four at once, which growers fold into a single figure called VPD. That is why a room is set up as a system instead of a pile of gadgets.

Put the room together in this order

  1. Extraction first. Join an inline fan to a matched carbon filter and ducting. Fresh air comes in, stale humid air goes out, and roughly half the temperature and humidity issues leave with the exhaust.
  2. Circulation second. Clip-on and wall fans keep air moving so a leaf is not sitting in a still pocket.
  3. Then humidity. Use a humidifier in dry rooms and for seedlings; use a dehumidifier in late flower and in wet climates.
  4. Then temperature at the roots and in the air. Water chillers and heaters hold the reservoir. Tent heaters cover winter.
  5. CO2 last. After the items above are holding steady, CO2 is the leftover lever — and only in sealed rooms.

Keep score

Guessing does not count as tuning. Put thermometers and hygrometers in the air, testing equipment in the water, and controllers on the response once you have watched what the room does through a day.

Environment FAQ's

Aim for the mid-20s (°C) with more humidity while plants are seedlings or in veg, then drop toward the low-to-mid 20s and drier air as you go through flower. Holding a steady line matters more than hitting a textbook number. Large day-night swings and humidity spikes cause more damage than sitting a degree off target. A thermometer-hygrometer with min/max memory is how you see what the room actually does.

Start with extraction: an inline fan, a carbon filter sized to it, and ducting. That one stack dumps heat and humidity, brings in fresh CO2-rich air, and handles odour. Circulation fans come next — they cost little and do a lot of the work. Humidifiers, heaters, chillers and CO2 wait until your readings say you need them.

Vapour pressure deficit is temperature and humidity folded into one number that describes how hard plants are being asked to transpire. If you are new to this, work in temperature and humidity ranges and ignore VPD for now. Once the room holds a line and you are chasing the last few percent, VPD charts — and controllers that track them — are the next step.

The usual cause is an extraction fan that only works in bursts — flat out, then off. A speed-controlled EC fan left running at a lower speed flattens that swing, and a climate controller that eases fan speed against a humidity target flattens it more. Add or upsize a humidifier or dehumidifier only after that.
