Why Aquamaster

Aquamaster sits above pen-shop meters and below full laboratory instrumentation, which is where most growing actually happens. The useful part is the ladder: the same brand covers a basic pH pen and a substrate-capable handheld, so upgrading does not mean relearning.

Replaceable electrodes

pH electrodes are consumables — they drift and eventually die, and on a sealed pen that means binning the meter. The P110 Pro-2 takes a replaceable pH and EC electrode, so the instrument outlives its sensor.

Substrate measurement, not just solution

The S300 Pro-2 and the substrate version of the H600 Pro read pH and EC in the growing medium itself rather than in runoff. In coco and rockwool that is a different number from what comes out of the tray, and it is the one the roots actually experience.

Calibration solutions in two sizes

pH 4.01, pH 7.00 and EC 1413 all come in 20mL sachets and 100mL bottles. The small size suits single-use calibration without a part-used bottle going off in the cupboard.

How to keep a meter reading true

  1. Calibrate on a schedule, not on suspicion. Two-point calibration with pH 4.01 and 7.00 monthly is a reasonable baseline for a pen in regular use; weekly if it lives in nutrient solution.
  2. Never store a pH probe dry. The glass bulb needs to stay wet. A dried-out electrode is the single most common reason a meter stops holding calibration.
  3. Rinse between solutions. Carrying calibration fluid into your reservoir, or nutrient into your buffer bottle, corrupts both.
  4. Do not reuse calibration solution. Pour what you need, use it, discard it. That is what the 20mL sachets are for.
  5. Measure substrate as well as solution in coco and rockwool. Input EC, runoff EC and substrate EC are three different numbers. The one in the root zone is the one driving the plant.

Aquamaster FAQ's

For a pen in regular use, a two-point calibration with pH 4.01 and pH 7.00 once a month is a sensible baseline. If the meter lives in nutrient solution or gets used daily, go weekly. Calibrate immediately after replacing an electrode, and any time a reading looks wrong before you act on it — an uncalibrated meter will happily tell you a confident lie.

Both are Aquamaster Pro combo pens. The P110 Pro reads pH, EC and temperature and takes a replaceable pH and EC electrode. The P160 Pro adds PPM and TDS to the same measurements, so you can read in whichever scale your feed chart uses without converting. If you expect to replace the electrode rather than the meter, the P110 Pro-2 is the one built for that.

It reads pH and EC in the growing medium itself rather than in solution or runoff. In coco and rockwool the root zone can sit well away from both your input and your runoff figures, and the root zone is what the plant responds to. The S300 Pro-2 and the substrate H600 Pro are built with probes for that measurement.

For pH, a two-point calibration uses pH 4.01 and pH 7.00 — buy both. For EC meters, EC 1413 is the standard single-point standard. All three come in 20mL sachets and 100mL bottles here. Sachets suit occasional calibration because there is no part-used bottle degrading in the cupboard between uses.

On the P110 Pro-2, yes — a replaceable pH and EC electrode is stocked for it. That is worth factoring into the purchase, because pH electrodes are consumables with a working life of roughly a year or two depending on use and storage. On sealed pens, a dead electrode means a dead meter.

Usually the electrode has dried out, been stored in distilled water, or picked up a coating from nutrient salts. Keep the bulb wet in proper storage solution, rinse after every use, and clean off residue gently. If it still will not hold a two-point calibration after that, the electrode has reached the end of its life.
