Why Pondmax

Pondmax covers a whole pond from one brand, which is the practical reason growers and pond keepers stay with it: the pump, the filter, the UV clarifier, the aerator and the treatments are designed to work as a system, and the fittings match.

One brand from pump to treatment

The range runs from a 130mm floating plant ring through to the SubAir Deluxe Aeration Station 4000. That means a pond can be built, filtered, lit and dosed without mixing brands and discovering the hose barbs disagree.

Low-voltage and solar options

The EVO II DC series (EV1910-DC through EV4910-DC) runs at low voltage, and the PS solar pump and panel kits — PS200, PS600, PS1700 and PS3500 — run with no mains connection at all. There is a battery backup box for the EV pumps and a standalone solar battery backup unit.

Filtration sized to the pond

Pressure filters with built-in UV clarifiers run from the PF2500UV up to the PF30000UV, and the PM2600 combines pump, UV and filter in one unit for smaller ponds.

Our Pondmax range

Pumps: submersible HP550, HP850 and HP1100; PV650 through PV2800; Infiniti I800, I1200 and I2000; the EVO II series from EV1900 to EV13600; low-voltage EV-DC models; PU waterfall and filtration pumps PU3500 to PU12500; and high-flow PX filter pumps.

Filtration and clarifiers: PF-series pressure filters with UV from PF2500UV to PF30000UV, and the all-in-one PM2600 pump and UV-C filter system.

Aeration: CT202 and CT402 air pumps, CAP20, CAP50 and CAP100, PA10 and PA20 aeration pump kits, tube diffusers, and the SubAir compressor and aeration stations.

Water treatments: Clarifier Bacteria in 50g to 2kg, BactiMAX and BioNatural liquids, ClearMAX, CleanMAX+ algaecide, BarleyMax+, Algae Block, String Algae Treatment powder and DeChlorinator from 500mL to 5L.

Finishing and maintenance: LED ring and garden lights, floating fountain heads, spitter ornaments, PondShield liner paint, cover nets, ribbed and silicone tubing, 12V outdoor transformers, pond vacuums and fish food.

How to choose the right Pondmax pump

  1. Work out the turnover you need. A general rule for an ornamental pond is turning the full volume over roughly once an hour, so a 5,000L pond wants a pump rated near 5,000L/h at the head height you are actually lifting to.
  2. Account for head height. Every pump loses flow as it lifts. If the waterfall sits 1.5m above the pond, use the pump curve at 1.5m, not the headline figure.
  3. Decide mains, low voltage or solar. Mains EVO II for continuous filtration, EV-DC low voltage where the cable run is long or near the water, PS solar kits where there is no power at the pond at all.
  4. Match the filter to the fish load. Fish and feeding raise the load. A pond with koi needs more filtration and UV than the same volume with plants only.
  5. Add aeration if the pond runs warm. Warm water holds less dissolved oxygen. An air pump and diffuser is cheap insurance through an Australian summer.

Keeping a pond clear

Clear water is mostly biology, not equipment. A UV clarifier knocks down the free-floating algae that turns water green, but it does nothing for string algae or the nutrient load feeding it — that is what the bacteria treatments, barley products and string algae powders are for. Dechlorinate any mains water going in, and give a new filter a few weeks to establish before judging it.

Pondmax FAQ's

Start with your pond volume and aim to turn it over about once an hour, then check the pump's output at the head height you are lifting to rather than its maximum figure. A 5,000L pond with a 1.5m waterfall needs a pump still delivering around 5,000L/h at 1.5m. If the pump also feeds a pressure filter, allow for the restriction that adds.

Both are submersible Pondmax pumps. The EVO II series runs on mains power and covers the widest flow range, from the EV1900 up to the EV13600. The EV-DC models run at low voltage through an external transformer, which suits long cable runs and installations where you would rather not have mains voltage near the water. A backup battery box is available for the EV pumps.

A UV clarifier only treats free-floating algae — the kind that turns water pea-green. It clumps the cells so the filter can catch them. It will not touch string algae or blanket weed, and it does not replace filtration or bacteria. If your water is green rather than dirty, the PF-series pressure filters have UV built in.

The PS series is sold as a matched pump and panel kit — PS200, PS600, PS1700 and PS3500 — and runs with no mains connection. A separate solar battery backup unit and a solar smart switch are available if you want the pump to keep running when the sun goes off the panel.

Follow the label on the product you are using — Pondmax Clarifier Bacteria, BactiMAX and BioNatural all have their own rates. As a general pattern, beneficial bacteria are dosed more often when water is warm and the pond is actively feeding, and cut back as temperatures drop and biological activity slows.

Yes, if the pond holds fish or an established biological filter. Chlorine and chloramine in mains water kill the bacteria doing your filtration and stress fish. Pondmax DeChlorinator comes in 500mL, 2.5L and 5L; treat the volume of water you are adding, not the whole pond.
