How a carbon filter keeps a grow room odour-free

Mount the filter inside the tent, connect it to your exhaust fan, and every litre of air leaving the grow gets scrubbed through a bed of activated carbon on its way out. Run the tent under slight negative pressure and odour physically cannot leave any other way. The filter does the scrubbing; the inline fan does the moving — they're a matched pair.

Our carbon filter range

AC Infinity. Duct filters from 100mm to 300mm packed with Australian charcoal, plus refillable filter kits and 8lb carbon refill bags — replace the carbon, keep the canister.

Rhino Pro. The deepest range on the shelf: 100mm through to 350x1200mm, with multiple lengths per diameter for matching filter capacity to fan.

The Can-Filter family. Can-Lite value filters (100–250mm), the Can-Original BFT series and the long-life Classic Can-Filter — Dutch-designed workhorses.

Headwind HVC, Pro Grow Dragon and Sigilventus round out the range, and Phresh pre-filter socks fit most filters to catch dust before it clogs the carbon.

Whole-room odour control

A carbon filter scrubs the air you extract; ONA neutralisers deal with the smell that never makes it into the duct. Blocks and gels (Linen Fresh, Pro Active and more, up to 10L) work passively in the room around your grow; Boom sprays are the instant fix for entryways and gear. Keep them near the grow area rather than inside the tent, so the neutralising agent never sits beside ripening plants.

How to choose the right carbon filter

  1. Match the duct size. Filter flange = fan size = duct size. We stock 100mm to 350mm.
  2. Match the airflow. The filter's rated m³/h should meet or exceed your fan's — an overpowered fan pulls air through too fast for the carbon to grab odour molecules.
  3. Length buys life. A longer canister of the same diameter holds more carbon and reaches its breakthrough point later.
  4. Consider refillable. AC Infinity's refillable kits take 8lb charcoal refill bags — cheaper per change once the canister's paid for.
  5. Add a pre-filter sock. Dust is what kills airflow first; socks are cheap and washable.
  6. Replace at breakthrough, not on a calendar. When you first smell the grow from the ducting, the carbon is done — high humidity gets there sooner.

Carbon Filters & Odour Control FAQ's

Match the filter's flange to your fan and duct size — 100–150mm for small tents, 150–200mm for mid-size setups, 250mm+ for rooms. Then check the airflow rating: the filter's m³/h figure should meet or exceed your fan's, so air spends long enough in the carbon bed to be scrubbed properly.

Until its breakthrough point — the moment you first notice odour from the ducting, when heavier molecules start displacing lighter ones from saturated carbon. There's no fixed calendar: high humidity and dusty rooms shorten the life, a pre-filter sock and running within the filter's rated airflow extend it. Longer canisters last longer than short ones of the same diameter.

The AC Infinity refillable filter kits are built for exactly that — the canister stays, and you swap in an 8lb bag of Australian activated charcoal when the carbon is spent. Standard sealed filters (Rhino Pro, Can-Lite, Can-Filter) are replaced as a unit once they hit breakthrough.
